Safaricom M-Pesa 1Tap has been available since May 2017, but it has been undergoing some refurbishment ready for the big launch. The payment service was available to a few users then, but now it is available to all people with M-Pesa accounts.

Faster Way to Pay with M-Pesa
According to Safaricom, M-Pesa 1Tap is the faster way to pay with M-Pesa. Using this service, you simply need to tap, enter PIN to pay and go! You can easily and securely perform payment tasks such as ‘Lipa Na M-Pesa’ and ‘Buy Goods and Services’. The service uses a card, phone sticker or wristband device connected to an M-Pesa account. The phone sticker can be the Near Field Communication (NFC) tag.
How to Make Payments with M-Pesa 1Tap
First, you need to visit an M-Pesa vendor. The vendor will key in the amount you want to pay onto the M-Pesa OneTap Point of Sale device (i.e. card, phone sticker or wristband). You will then be required to tap your M-Pesa 1Tap tag onto the device. After this, you will receive a pop up on your device asking you to enter your M-Pesa PIN for the transaction to be processed.
How to get the M-Pesa 1Tap
This tap-and-go service goes with the devices mentioned above, so what you need is one of these devices. To buy them, you need to visit any Safaricom retail shop, M-Pesa agent or Safaricom authorized dealer. After buying the device, the vendor will connect it to your M-PESA account and also activate it for use.
The best thing about Safaricom M-Pesa 1Tap is that it helps make payments faster and securely. According to my own experience, it reduces the payment steps to three (Tap, Pin, and Pay) and makes the whole mobile money platform even more reliable after its recent upgrade. Moreover, the devices involved are lighter and also pretty convenient.
